The Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus is excited to present Everybody Say Love — A 40th Season Celebration under the direction of Artistic Director Alex Heetland. This concert brings together the vibrant energy of LGBT culture and the universal power of love in a joyous and empowering musical journey.

We are a diverse and welcoming chorus whose members have a wide variety of musical experiences, ages, and backgrounds.

We strongly encourage people who do not identify as gay men to join the chorus. SGMC provides up to four holiday performances the first or second full weekend of December, with additional performances throughout December. Although SGMC seeks trained singers and musicians with a background in choral singing and the ability to read music, singers with intermediate experience are also sought and encouraged.

We hold auditions by appointment twice a year and schedule audition appointments after our Holiday Show in December and after our Pride Show in June. While we require you to be at least 18 years old, we also ask that you possess basic musical knowledge and experience.

The ability to read music is not a requirement; however, you chorus be a quick study, be able to match pitch and sing your own musical line while other parts are being sung around you. SGMC always welcomes new members of ALL sexual orientations, gender expressions, ethnicities, backgrounds, and skill levels who can sing tenor or bass parts.

Sunday sectional rehearsals are scheduled regularly throughout each spring and fall rehearsal schedule. We have a strict rehearsal schedule of Thursday evenings and alternate Sunday afternoons, with some supplemental dates added as necessary.

Additionally, members must be willing to work on music outside of rehearsal and perform it from memory. Dress and technical rehearsals are scheduled during show week leading up to all performances. As a performing arts group, SGMC strives to enrich and entertain its audiences through varied concerts on stage and various performances comprising a range of vocal, musical, theatrical, and dance presentations.

All shows require complete memorization of all music and choreography unless otherwise indicated. Through an eclectic mix of songs inspired by iconic drag queens and timeless love anthems, SGMC. After you submit a form, our Membership Committee Chair will be in touch to schedule your appointment.

SGMC is dedicated to providing its audiences with high-quality performances of choral music while maintaining an atmosphere of camaraderie, support, and respect for its members. This commitment is easily offset by the joy of making beautiful music together and being part of a Sacramento tradition 40 years strong.

The Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus joins with choruses of UC Davis — which include the Concert Choir and the Chamber Singers — to perform the oratorio "Considering Matthew Shepard," which honors and celebrates the life of the LGBTQ+ icon. The chorus was founded in as a singing group that aimed to foster a sense of community and support gay men in the Sacramento area during the AIDS crisis.
